Without a doubt, one of the finest traits of the internet is the anonymity factor. Throw out the arguments you may have about GPS tracking, data mining, government control and all the blatant breaches of privacy from social media conglomerates — we are here to keep this light.
In the world of cryptocurrency trading lies an underbelly known only by those who observe it, those who participate in it and those who build and run the show — yes, we are talking about Crypto Twitter.
Crypto Twitter, or ‘C.T’ for short can pretty much be summed up as hanging out with that weird group of friends that you aren’t really friends with and everyone has a different plan on how to get where they are going.
It’s a dangerous place (financially) if you really don’t know what you are doing, there’s plenty of time for bullshit, absolutely no accountability and best of all, it is literally run by a group of cartoons and anonymous characters.
However, as ridiculous as this description may sound, the space is filled with extremely creative, high conviction personalities who have time and time again been on both the winning and losing side of an investment, a trade or an argument. They stand tough and continue to pursue their own personal financial goals through independent thought and entertaining online personalities.
Notable Accounts:
Rookie XBT — a Doge holding a bag. Uses a magnet as a signature. Extremely manic marketing wizard with a sense of humour unmatched. Admits his status as a ‘Rookie’, although we think he is a little more experienced than that. Will trade anything, anytime, and be gentlemanly enough to tell you about it win or lose.
CryptoGainz — a Bitcoin dressed up in a business suit flying up a roller coaster. Manic depressive, substance addicted, Ethereum hating bully that programs his own successful trading bots and can flip a profit on a whim. King of Pepe memes. Not one to piss off.
Plan ₿ — an avatar of a simple hat with the infamous ‘₿’ for Bitcoin on the front stares you down when you land on this account. Arguably one of the most disputed, highly doubted, highly praised leaders in the space. Creator of the Bitcoin Stock to Flow model — not a single minute goes by where the formula of this model is doubted and discussed — Plan ₿ is informed, enlightened and anonymous by choice.
Shardi B — graphically designed multi-coloured portraits of pop icon Cardi B. It wouldn’t do justice to try and explain the power behind this persona. It’s something you have to see for yourself. Half crypto / Half securities, full confidence — ‘don’t follow Shardi B if you hate money.’
In an ever growing trend of social media copycats, the major personalities on C.T stand as a testament that individuality still exists, even if it comes in the form of a Penguin or even a Cactus. While most pop culture influencers strike the same pose, dance the same dance and wear the same clothes for a follow or a like, the cast of crypto twitter is pushing boundaries both culturally and financially, with no regret as to what may come of it — a breath of fresh air mixed with some fear, self loathing, adrenaline, freedom and doubt.
It wouldn’t be the special environment it is if it was any other way.
